About the Columbus Symphony Orchestra

Founded in 1855 by Mendelssohn’s student, Herman S. Saroni, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is the second oldest orchestra in the United States. Despite challenges during the Civil War and both World Wars, the CSO has continuously reorganized and performed since 1949, establishing itself as a professional orchestra in the late 1970s. With up to 90 talented musicians, the CSO captivates audiences at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts in Columbus, GA.
