Our Story

Inspired by the personal experiences of Program Director Isahar Mendez and Musical Director Victor Becerra, the Colorado Youth Mariachi Program (CYMP) was officially launched in 2019. After offering free music lessons for three years to family and friends, CYMP has dedicated itself to inspiring youth in the art of music making and mariachi culture. Supported by local mariachi musicians, the program has encouraged schools to establish their own mariachi initiatives, fostering a deep appreciation for this vibrant cultural heritage.

Impact

A sustainable and quality music education is crucial for many students' academic success. Recognized as a world heritage art form by UNESCO, mariachi serves as a powerful tool for enhancing academic performance. Schools across the nation have reported increased student engagement, improved attendance rates, and higher academic achievement among at-risk Hispanic students involved in mariachi programs.
