Our Story

Over 20 years ago, two college friends at Indiana University dreamed of inspiring children to build brighter futures. In 1996, they launched pilot programs at Indiana University and Butler University, pairing mentors with 33 local kids. Officially registered as a nonprofit in 1997, College Mentors for Kids expanded to a state-wide headquarters in Indiana the following summer. Today, the organization serves 31 chapters across the United States, impacting over 1,500 children through the dedication of more than 2,000 college student volunteers.

Impact of Mentoring

Mentoring makes a significant difference in the lives of children. Participants in the program gain confidence, explore future careers, and consider higher education while still in elementary school. Meanwhile, college student mentors develop leadership skills and a passion for community engagement.
