Our Story

Founded in 1999, the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) emerged from a partnership among California’s major utilities, aiming to enhance energy efficiency in K-12 educational facilities. Recognizing the need for comprehensive improvement, CHPS expanded its focus to encompass all facets of high-performance school design, construction, and operation. With successful projects in California as a model, CHPS has now influenced over 750 projects across more than 70 school districts nationwide, impacting the educational experience of half a million students.

Impact

CHPS has collaborated with over 60 school districts on more than 700 projects, creating better learning environments for millions of students. The organization is committed to enhancing student physical health, academic performance, mental wellbeing, and environmental stewardship through the development of high-performance school environments.
