Coding It Forward

Our Story

Founded in January 2017 by a group of early-career technologists, Coding It Forward emerged from a desire to create mission-driven technical internships. The initiative began with a blog and online community, advocating for a broader role for technologists beyond app development. In the summer of 2017, the Coding It Forward Fellowship was launched, enabling technologists to innovate within federal government agencies. By 2021, the program expanded to include state and local government partners, placing 691 Fellows in 80 government offices nationwide.
