Our Story

The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) was founded in 1996 by three visionary Native women: Peggy Bird, Darlene Correa, and Genne James. This organization was established to empower Native advocates addressing domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and sex trafficking within New Mexico’s tribal communities.

Impact

Over two decades later, CSVANW remains a vital resource, fostering collaborations with tribal leadership to enhance legislation and policies that protect Native women and children. The organization is celebrated for its innovative strategies in combating violence.
