Our Story
The Coalition to Save Hempstead Harbor was founded in 1986 as a grassroots response to environmental threats facing the harbor. With a commitment to advocacy and community engagement, CSHH has established programs like the Citizens Water-Monitoring Program to ensure the health of this vital ecosystem.
Our Impact
CSHH has made significant strides in improving water quality, leading to the reopening of 2,500 acres of shellfish beds for harvesting in 2011. Community initiatives such as oyster gardening have further enhanced local biodiversity.
