The Inspiring Legacy of the Clinton Comets

The Clinton Comets Youth Hockey Association has a rich history that dates back to 1917, rooted in the passion of local boys playing hockey on a frozen canal. This enthusiasm caught the attention of Coach Prettyman, a pioneer in American hockey, who, along with Ed Stanley and Fred Goering, established an outdoor rink in the early 1920s. The formation of the first Clinton High School hockey team in 1924 marked the beginning of over 90 years of continuous league play, nurturing countless players who went on to excel in prestigious colleges and professional leagues.

Throughout the decades, the Comets have become a symbol of community spirit and athletic excellence. The opening of the Clinton Arena in 1948 solidified this legacy, making Clinton a notable hub for hockey in America. The Comets, originally known as the Clinton Hockey Club, transitioned into a competitive team that attracted top talent, including Canadian professional players, and became affiliated with the Eastern Hockey League in 1954.
