Our Story

The Welty Corporation was established through the generous donations of Clara and Bertha Welty, who dedicated their estate to create a trust for the care and housing of aged individuals. Clara Welty, renowned for her philanthropy, supported numerous causes during the Great Depression and was honored by the Vatican for her contributions. In 1950, she donated her family home to provide compassionate care for the elderly. Since then, the Welty Trust has funded the construction and renovation of six residential facilities in Wheeling, West Virginia, ensuring quality housing and healthcare for individuals over 65.

Impact

Since its inception, the Welty Corporation has housed and cared for over 5,000 individuals, employing 309 people and contributing $29.8 million annually to the local economy. The organization has successfully funded $47 million worth of construction and renovation through Clara Welty's original donation of $2.9 million.
