Our Story
Established in 1967 by a group of visionary Midland parents, City of Midland Aquatics Inc, known as COM Aquatics, has dedicated over fifty years to fostering swimming excellence and community wellness. The journey began with the opening of the Mabee Memorial Aquatic Center in June 1972, featuring a 25-yard competition pool. Over the years, COM has expanded significantly, adding the Abell-Hanger Pool and the O’Shaughnessy Diving Center in 1993, which allowed for competitive diving and swimming events.
In 2000, the addition of specialized facilities, including a dedicated therapy pool and a fully equipped fitness center, broadened COM’s reach to serve not only competitive athletes but also community members seeking fitness and rehabilitation. The latest expansion, the FMH Foundation Natatorium, opened in April 2016, featuring an Olympic-sized pool and state-of-the-art facilities, making COM one of the most comprehensive aquatic centers in the nation.
