Our Story
City Island Rowing was founded in the summer of 2014 by a group of 14 dedicated athletes who sought to continue their rowing journey under the guidance of their former coach, Guy Monseair. With no resources, no launch site, and no equipment, the journey began in a backyard. Determined and passionate, the team quickly devised a strategy, moving training into a basement and securing a launch site agreement. With borrowed and leased equipment, the athletes built their own docks from scratch, marking the birth of City Island Rowing.
As training intensified for the Canadian Henley, the inaugural regatta proved to be a tremendous success, igniting a surge in membership demand. The need for additional equipment and expanded dock space confirmed that City Island Rowing was here to stay, fostering a vibrant community of young athletes.
