Our Story

Founded in 2011 by the creators of Brooklyn Grange, City Growers was born from a desire to educate youth about urban agriculture. Many young people visiting the rooftop farm expressed a disconnect with nature, feeling it was for 'other people.' City Growers aims to change this narrative by providing free educational tours and workshops, allowing youth to see New York City as a vibrant ecosystem. With trained educators, the organization develops an experiential, nature-based curriculum that empowers young people to engage with their environment.

Our Impact

City Growers offers a variety of programs, including Farm Workshops and Family Farm Days at Brooklyn Grange, as well as Farm to Youth Workshops in schools and public spaces. The organization also provides school garden and beekeeping residencies, along with paid high school skills-training programs in urban agriculture. By focusing on NYC Title 1 Public Schools and underserved neighborhoods, City Growers ensures that those who need these programs the most can access them, fostering a sense of stewardship and connection to nature.
