Our Story
In the early 1980s, Christian Services, Inc. was founded by Bill and Cookie Prout, alongside a dedicated group of Christians who were moved by the plight of the hungry, homeless, and hopeless in their community. Officially opening its doors in 1986, CSI began serving hot meals to those in need from a modest house on McSwain Street. Today, the organization has expanded significantly, serving 600-800 meals daily from a modern kitchen at 301 E. Second Street through The Soup Kitchen and Meals on Wheels.
In addition to food assistance, CSI has developed Liberty Ministries, a long-term residential recovery program for men facing life-controlling issues. This initiative has transformed lives, rescuing many from the streets and the court system, and providing them with hope for a brighter future. With the support of The Asbury Foundation, CSI acquired the 18.5-acre Land of Liberty, where ongoing renovations are creating a safe haven for men in recovery.
Over the past thirty-five years, CSI has evolved into a vital community resource, addressing the urgent needs of those affected by poverty, addiction, and unforeseen hardships. The mission remains clear: to share God’s love through practical support and guidance, empowering individuals to rise above their circumstances.
