Restoring Voices Silenced by War

Founded in 2006, ChildVoice International is dedicated to restoring the voices of children silenced by war, particularly in northern Uganda. With over 30,000 children abducted by the Lord’s Resistance Army, many survivors returned home to face immense challenges, including trauma and lack of educational opportunities. The Lukome Center, established in 2007, serves as a therapeutic community for adolescent girls, including former child soldiers and sex slaves, war orphans, and child mothers. Here, these vulnerable girls find a safe space to heal and receive the educational and vocational training necessary to rebuild their lives.

Empowering Girls Through Education and Support

ChildVoice has made significant strides in empowering girls through various programs. In 2015, the organization published "Enduring the Night: Courageous Stories of Survival by Former Girl Soldiers," showcasing the resilience of girls who have faced unimaginable hardships. Although Uganda is no longer at war, the lingering effects of conflict continue to impact families, and ChildVoice has expanded its reach to the Imvepi refugee settlement in South Sudan, where thousands have fled violence. Here, Empowerment Groups provide psychosocial counseling, life skills training, and essential health and hygiene kits, equipping girls for a lifetime of self-empowerment.

Addressing the Needs of Displaced Children

With 37 million forcibly displaced children and adolescents worldwide, the need for support is urgent. ChildVoice is exploring opportunities to assist in northeastern Nigeria, where the violence of Boko Haram has devastated communities. Local leaders have expressed interest in the ChildVoice model, highlighting the demand for programs that foster hope and resilience in the face of adversity.

Make a Difference Today

Donations to ChildVoice can cover essential services such as counseling, vocational training, and educational supplies for young women and their children affected by war. For instance, just $23 can provide one day at the Lukome Center for a young woman and her child, including room and board, uniforms, books, medical care, and vocational training.
