Empowering Young Heroes Through Life-Safety Education

Since 1986, a dedicated group of citizens in Washington County has been committed to ensuring the safety of children through comprehensive life-safety education. This initiative was born out of a tragic need, as local police faced a disturbing rise in bicycle and auto collisions, alongside devastating house fires that claimed young lives. In response, community leaders, business owners, and first responders united to create a centralized facility dedicated to delivering essential safety lessons.

In 1990, the Children’s Village of Washington County opened its doors, offering a two-day hands-on program that has since produced 29 young heroes, all honored on our 'Hall of Fame Wall'. Trained instructors engage second-grade students—identified as the most receptive age group—across public, private, religious, and home school settings. This program not only educates children but also fosters strong partnerships with local schools, emergency services, and businesses, ensuring a consistent delivery of life-saving information.
