The Children's Initiative was established in 1992 by five local San Diego foundations and over 40 community leaders. This organization serves as an advocate and custodian for effective policies, programs, and services that support the health and well-being of children, youth, and families in San Diego County. With more than 20 years of experience, the Initiative collaborates across health, education, community safety, and economic security sectors to help children and families thrive.
Currently, the Children's Initiative assists over 5,000 at-risk youth through community-based programming. Their efforts have led to the passage of supportive policies and legislation, improved services, and the creation of the award-winning San Diego County Report Card on Children and Families, which guides policy and program development for the entire county.
