Our Story
Children of Uganda, formerly known as Uganda Children’s Charity Foundation, was founded in 1995, inspired by the remarkable work of Sister Rose Muyinza, affectionately known as 'Uganda’s Mother Theresa.' Her dedication to supporting orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) laid the foundation for this nonprofit organization. Through partnerships with Sister Rose and the Daughters of Charity, Children of Uganda has provided essential resources to hundreds of children, ensuring they have access to education and livelihood support.
In 1993, a group of orphans under Sister Rose’s guidance traveled to the U.S. to perform at the Wolf Trap Children’s Festival, where they won first place. This marked the beginning of the Tour of Light, a cultural music, dance, and storytelling tour aimed at raising awareness and support for AIDS orphans in Uganda. The troupe has traveled across the country multiple times, sharing their stories and talents.
Since its inception, Children of Uganda has supported over 1,500 students from impoverished backgrounds, providing them with education from primary to university levels. The organization also offers safe shelter, nutritious food, healthcare, and emotional support to ensure the well-being of these children.
