Our Story
Children First Education Fund (CFEF) was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit scholarship granting organization to champion school choice for students with disabilities. Founded by passionate advocates Jordan Clements, Kim Coleman, and Doug Holmes, CFEF is driven by the Carson Smith Opportunity Scholarship, a Utah state initiative that began in 2019 and was updated in 2024.
Impact
Over 80,000 special needs students in Utah are eligible for the Carson Smith Opportunity Scholarship, which significantly benefits the public education system by providing savings of up to 3 to 1.
Why Donate?
Donors to CFEF can take advantage of a unique 100% nonrefundable state income tax credit under Utah Code §59-10-1041. This means that contributions to CFEF redirect funds that would otherwise go to the state, making it a win-win for both donors and students.
