Our Story
Founded in 1997, the Child Care Alliance of Los Angeles (CCALA) emerged from a collaboration of agencies dedicated to enhancing the subsidized child care program under CalWORKs. By sharing best practices, these agencies established a robust system that prioritizes quality assurance, accountability, and program integrity for families in need. Over the years, CCALA has successfully managed various child care voucher programs, including CalWORKs Stage One, Stage Two, Stage Three, and Alternative Payment contracts, empowering thousands of low-income parents and former welfare recipients to secure employment and pursue training opportunities.
In 2006, CCALA launched the Gateways for Early Educator™ professional development system, consolidating training and coaching programs to better support child care providers. This initiative includes the Gateways Passport, a comprehensive training program available throughout the county, along with individualized coaching to translate knowledge into practice. Building on this foundation, CCALA has expanded its reach by managing county-wide programs since 2011, such as emergency preparedness initiatives, Quality Rating and Improvement Systems, and health-focused child care programs.
