About Rainbow House

Founded in November 1986 by Kathy Hughes, Rainbow House began as a humble emergency shelter for children in an old farmhouse. With a vision to create a safe, home-like environment, Rainbow House has become the only children’s emergency shelter in Mid-Missouri, dedicated to keeping sibling groups together and allowing children to continue their education. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services to include crisis care and a child advocacy center, responding to the growing needs of the community.

Impact on the Community

Rainbow House serves 11 counties in Mid-Missouri, providing essential support to child abuse victims and their families. Every day, children find safety and hope within the walls of Rainbow House, where they can share their stories and begin the healing process.
