Our Story

Forged from personal tragedy, Chicago Survivors Inc. was founded in May 2010 by Joy McCormack after the violent loss of her son, Frankie Valencia. Experiencing profound grief and isolation, Joy recognized the urgent need for crisis support services for families of homicide victims. Chicago Survivors began advocating for change, gathering insights from other survivors, and identifying critical areas needing reform.

Impact

Today, Chicago Survivors provides multi-cultural crime victim services, including immediate crisis response, family counseling, and criminal justice advocacy, serving hundreds of families across the city.
