Empowering the Running Community in Chicago
The Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) was founded in 1978 as a grassroots movement to advocate for the running community in Chicago. With over 10,000 members, CARA has become the third-largest running club in the nation, offering more than 1,300 programming dates each year. The mission focuses on providing accessible opportunities for all runners to train, race, learn, socialize, and volunteer.
Making a Lasting Impact
CARA has successfully engaged over 15,000 finishers through its 'Go Run program, which provides free timed 5K and 1 Mile events in underserved neighborhoods. This initiative ensures that running is accessible to all communities in Chicago, particularly for black and brown runners.
Support the Cause
Donating to CARA supports its mission of making running accessible to everyone in the Chicago area. Contributions help fund free events, training programs, and community outreach initiatives that promote health, fitness, and social engagement through running.
