Our Story
Founded in 1960 by visionary healthcare leaders, Cherokee Health Systems (CHS) emerged from a commitment to provide accessible and affordable healthcare in the Morristown area. Dr. Bob Spiegel and Dr. Jack McConnell, alongside community advocates, established a mental health center to address the pressing healthcare disparities faced by underserved populations. Over the decades, CHS has evolved, expanding its services to include primary care, behavioral health, and substance use disorder treatment, all under one roof.
Utilizing an innovative 'Integrated Health Care Home' model, CHS ensures that patients receive comprehensive and coordinated care tailored to their unique needs. This holistic approach not only addresses mental health but also emphasizes the importance of physical health, fostering overall well-being.
Community engagement is at the heart of CHS's mission. Collaborating with local schools, community centers, and healthcare providers, CHS promotes preventive care, education, and outreach programs, striving to enhance health outcomes across East Tennessee.
