Our Story

At just 18 years old, Mordy Botnick embarked on a life-changing journey from Ottawa, Canada, to join the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Arriving at Ben Gurion Airport with only $40, he found himself in a foreign land, seeking a sense of belonging. After a chance encounter with a Rabbi, Mordy discovered a welcoming Yeshiva that would become his home during the enlistment process. It was during his service in Netzach Yehuda that he realized the need for community among Lone Soldiers. One weekend, without a Shabbat invitation, he gathered fellow soldiers to create a shared Shabbat experience, igniting the vision for Chayal El Chayal.
