Charles River Association for Retarded Citizens Inc
EIN: 04-2393108 · Needham, MA
Our Story
In the 1950s, options for individuals with developmental disabilities were severely limited. Recognizing the need for better support, Tom and Anne Sell, parents of a daughter with Down syndrome, gathered fellow parents in their Needham home. This meeting led to the establishment of a preschool in 1956 at Carter Memorial Methodist Church, serving twelve children for just $1 a month. Today, the Charles River Center has grown significantly, operating 28 group homes and providing essential services to over 950 children and adults in the Boston MetroWest area.
Our Impact
