Our Story
The Charles B. Wang Community Health Center was founded in 1971, beginning as a health fair organized by dedicated volunteers to offer health education and screenings to the underserved Chinese community in New York City. The overwhelming community response led to the establishment of the Chinatown Health Clinic, which opened its doors that same year, entirely run by volunteers. Renamed in 1999, the center has since expanded its services to provide bilingual and bicultural health care, recognized as a Patient-Centered Medical Home since 2010.
Impact
In 2023, the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center served over 59,000 patients, facilitating more than 285,000 service visits. The center has received numerous awards for clinical quality, including the Health Center Quality Leader 'Gold' recognition and the National Quality Leader for Diabetes Health gold badge, making significant strides in telehealth and addressing social determinants of health.
