Our Story
The Champ Foundation was established in 2015 in memory of William Reynolds, who bravely battled Pearson Syndrome from a young age. This rare mitochondrial disease led to severe health challenges, including anemia and neutropenia, requiring multiple blood transfusions. After a period of stability, William faced myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and underwent a life-saving bone marrow transplant at the age of four. The foundation is dedicated to advancing research for better treatments and understanding of Pearson Syndrome and similar mitochondrial diseases.
Impact
Committed to supporting research, The Champ Foundation aims to improve treatment options and find a cure for single large-scale mitochondrial deletion syndromes, particularly Pearson Syndrome, which is often under-diagnosed.
