Transforming Transportation Justice in Santa Fe

Founded in 2004, Chainbreaker Collective emerged from a shared struggle for better transportation options. Initially focused on providing refurbished bicycles and mechanic training, the organization quickly evolved to address broader issues of transportation injustice. In response to the economic collapse and rising gas prices in 2008, Chainbreaker expanded its mission to include community organizing, empowering those directly affected by inadequate transportation infrastructure.

Building a Strong Community

Today, Chainbreaker boasts a robust membership of bicyclists and transit-dependent individuals who are committed to collective action. Through grassroots organizing, Chainbreaker has successfully changed perceptions about transportation, civil rights, and environmental justice in Santa Fe. By fostering connections between gentrification, poverty, and environmental issues, Chainbreaker works to bridge the economic divide that often marginalizes low-income communities and people of color.
