Our Story
Founded in 1973, the Burn Foundation emerged from the collaborative efforts of Crozer Chester Medical Center and St. Agnes Medical Center, establishing specialized departments for burn treatment. Over the years, the foundation has played a pivotal role in coordinating capital campaigns, creating emergency care protocols, and promoting burn care through newsletters. Today, four regional burn centers serve the Greater Philadelphia area, including Southeast Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware. These centers are located at Crozer Chester Medical Center, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, Temple University Health System, and Jefferson University Hospital.
The Burn Foundation partners with these institutions to enhance patient care through various support programs. This includes providing continuing education scholarships for medical staff, ensuring they stay updated with the latest innovations in burn care. Additionally, grants are offered for specific programs that benefit patients and their families, made possible by the generous contributions of benefactors.
Since its inception, the regional burn centers have treated tens of thousands of patients. The skilled professionals at these centers, led by specially trained surgeons, focus on the long-term treatment and recovery of burn survivors. Their goal is to facilitate a swift return to family, school, and work life for patients.
