Our Story

Founded in 2003 by Dr. Karen Hunter Quartz and Cris Gutierrez, the Center for Powerful Public Schools is dedicated to creating small, personalized schools in Los Angeles. Since receiving nonprofit status in 2008, the organization has focused on building the capacity of educators to foster equitable public schools that prepare students for college, career, and life.

Impact

Through successful partnerships with schools and districts, the Center cultivates a community of innovative educators focused on equity. Initiatives like the Black Student Excellence parent group and advocacy for educational funding highlight its commitment to transformative education.
