About the Center for Oral Health

Founded nearly forty years ago, the Center for Oral Health (COH) has evolved from the Dental Health Foundation into a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing oral health, particularly among vulnerable populations. Through innovative strategies, research, education, and advocacy, COH collaborates with various partners to create impactful community-based solutions.

Impactful Programs

One of COH's flagship initiatives is the Early Smiles program, a public-private partnership aimed at reducing dental disease among children and families. Since its inception in 2011, Early Smiles has expanded school-based oral health care, reaching over 45,000 students annually in Sacramento County. The program has conducted 27,000 dental screenings and provided more than 21,000 Fluoride Varnish treatments across 300 schools in 15 school districts.

Significant Savings

Early Smiles not only improves health outcomes but also saves money. It is estimated to provide $47 million in annual savings to Sacramento County taxpayers, public schools, and families. This success is made possible through the collaboration of COH, the Department of Health Care Services, and various dental plans.

Why Donate?

Your contribution can make a significant difference. For every $1 donated, COH delivers $107 worth of essential oral health services to public school students. With strong partnerships and efficient resource use, the Early Smiles program maximizes the impact of every dollar.
