Our Story

Founded in the 1950s by Shirley Ubell, the Center for Modern Dance Education began as 'The Studio' in Hackensack. Shirley envisioned a space where dance training was accessible to everyone, regardless of talent or financial situation. This non-competitive environment fosters creativity and community, allowing individuals of all ages and abilities to explore the art of modern dance.

Impact

CMDE is a Qualified Provider for adults with developmental disabilities, offering free dance programs in schools. These initiatives use dance as a tool for developing essential life skills, promoting unity and inclusivity within the community.
