Our Story
The Center for Living and Learning was founded in 1986 by the Lackey family to create a supportive environment for their brother Donald, who struggled with chronic schizophrenia. After facing challenges in various treatment programs, the family established a facility that enabled Donald to participate in an experimental drug trial, resulting in significant improvements. Officially opening its doors to residents in 1988, the center expanded its vocational program in 1992, further enhancing its mission.
