Our Story

The Center for Enriched Living (CEL) began its journey in 1968 when two mothers sought after-school programs for their children with developmental disabilities. With the help of a dedicated social worker, these children were integrated into community programs, paving the way for a more inclusive society. By 1984, CEL became an independent agency, starting with just 60 members. Today, it proudly serves over 400 individuals annually from its expansive 20,000 square foot facility in Riverwoods, equipped with a gymnasium, art room, teaching kitchen, technology hub, and accessible garden. Universal Design principles ensure that everyone can navigate and utilize CEL's resources with ease.
