Our Story
Founded in 2006 by members of the Cambodian community and Dr. Mona Afary, the Center for Empowering Refugees and Immigrants Inc (CERI) was established to support survivors of the Khmer Rouge genocide suffering from PTSD. Despite living in the Bay Area for two decades, these individuals lacked access to essential trauma-informed care and culturally relevant social services. This gap inspired CERI to expand its mission to serve a broader spectrum of Southeast Asian immigrants and refugees.
Impact
Over the past 17 years, CERI has successfully provided community-based mental health and holistic wellness services to over 1,200 diverse refugees and immigrants annually, including those from Cambodian, Vietnamese, Burmese, Afghan, Tibetan, Nepali, Indian, Rwandan, Filipinx, Iranian, and Latinx communities.
