Our Story

Founded in 2008 in Portland, Oregon, the Center for Diversity & the Environment (CDE) emerged from community forums that revealed a significant lack of racial equity in the mainstream environmental movement. CDE is dedicated to bridging the gap between communities of color and predominantly white-led environmental organizations, fostering an inclusive and equitable environmental movement.
