Our Story

Founded in 1997 by Parker J. Palmer, Marcy Jackson, and Rick Jackson, the Center for Courage & Renewal began as the Center for Teacher Formation within the Fetzer Institute. The Courage to Teach® program emerged as a transformative initiative, helping educators connect their soul with their role. As the program gained traction, the organization rebranded in 2003 to expand its mission, offering immersive Circle of Trust® retreats for individuals across various sectors, including education, healthcare, and activism.
