Our Story

In 1979, innovators at Columbia University united to address the growing homelessness crisis in New York City. Their mission was to connect faculty and graduate students with individuals often overlooked in society. Since becoming an independent nonprofit in 1993, the Center for Urban Community Services has excelled in developing affordable housing and providing integrated programs that link housing, health, and social services for the city’s most vulnerable populations.
