Our Story

In 1961, Wallace D. Wood envisioned a long-distance trail system in New York, inspired by his hikes on the Appalachian and Long Trails. This vision led to the formation of the Finger Lakes Trail Conference in 1962, with the Cayuga Trails Club sponsoring 70 miles of the main Finger Lakes Trail. Since then, the club has dedicated itself to trail construction, maintenance, and community outreach, fostering a deep appreciation for nature through hiking and conservation efforts.

Our Impact

The Cayuga Trails Club has successfully constructed and maintains 100 miles of trails, engaging volunteers in stewardship and conservation efforts. This work enhances outdoor recreation opportunities for the community.
