Our Story

Cave Canem was founded in 1996 by Toi Derricotte and Cornelius Eady to address the underrepresentation of African-American poets in the literary world. The organization provides a nurturing environment through intensive poetry workshops and readings, fostering a vibrant community for Black poets.
