Our Story

Founded in 2013, CAST has been a beacon for artists and cultural workers in the Bay Area, combating the challenges posed by rising commercial real estate prices. This innovative organization has evolved from a simple idea into a robust model that ensures artists can remain anchored in their communities. With the support of dedicated individuals and organizations, CAST has successfully transformed access to space for nonprofits, fostering a vibrant cultural landscape.

Impact

CAST has empowered over two dozen arts and community groups by providing them with dedicated spaces to thrive. From a humble team of two, CAST has expanded to 16 staff members, managing six projects across San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose, totaling over 80,000 square feet of affordable space. Notably, CAST is collaborating with the Black Cultural Zone to create a market hall and cultural hub in East Oakland, further solidifying its commitment to community development.
