Our Story

Founded in 1959 by Mildred Pinheiro, Casa Serena was established to provide a safe haven for women battling alcoholism in Santa Barbara. Recognizing the lack of resources available for women, Mildred's vision has transformed into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has supported thousands of women in their recovery journey over the past 60 years.

Impact of Our Work

Casa Serena is proud to report that 68% of women remain sober 12 months after completing treatment. Additionally, 90.9% of participants are either employed or pursuing education nine months post-treatment. Our comprehensive approach not only addresses substance abuse but also supports mental health, leading to improved self-esteem and conflict management skills.

Why Donate?

Your generous contributions to Casa Serena are fully tax-deductible and can be made through various methods, including cash, check, or electronic transfer. For those aged 70½ or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA can count toward your required minimum distribution, providing a significant benefit while supporting our mission.
