CASA of Johnson & Wyandotte Counties
EIN: 48-1088233 · Overland Park, KS
Our Story
In 1976, the CASA movement began with a vision from Judge David Soukup, who recognized the need for community volunteers to advocate for children facing abuse and neglect. CASA of Johnson & Wyandotte Counties was founded in 1985, inspired by this vision and supported by the National Council of Jewish Women. Today, CASA serves approximately 43% of the children navigating the court systems in these counties, providing a voice for those who need it most.
Impact
CASA volunteers are dedicated advocates for children involved in the court system due to emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Each trained volunteer works one-on-one with a child, gathering vital information from parents, social workers, and caregivers to ensure the child's best interests are represented in court. This commitment continues until a permanent resolution is achieved, providing stability and support during a critical time.
