Our Story
The Carthage Free Library was established in 1910 through the dedication of the Carthage Federation of Women’s Clubs, particularly the efforts of Mrs. Ruth Strickland Allen and Mrs. Nettie Hewitt. With the support of 36 local citizens, the library was granted an Absolute Charter by the Regents of the University of the State of New York in 1915. Initially starting as a reading room in the old Kimball House, the library has evolved into a vital community resource, thanks to generous donations that facilitated the construction of its current building.
