Our Story

The Carlisle Theatre, originally known as The Comerford, opened its doors in May of 1939 as a grand movie palace and the first centrally air-conditioned building in Carlisle. This Art Deco gem thrived through the 1960s, becoming the heart of a vibrant downtown. However, it faced decline in the 1970s and closed in 1986. In response to community demand, the Carlisle Regional Performing Arts Center, Inc. was established in 1990, leading to the Theatre's purchase and restoration. The Theatre reopened in 1993 and has since expanded its programming, becoming a cultural cornerstone once again.

Impact

Since its reopening, the Carlisle Theatre has played a pivotal role in revitalizing downtown Carlisle, offering quality film, theatre, and live music. It has successfully re-established itself as a cultural hub, fostering community engagement and diverse programming.
