About Care for Wild

Founded by Petronel Nieuwoudt, Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary is the largest orphaned rhino sanctuary in the world, located in Mpumalanga, South Africa. With a rich history rooted in wildlife conservation, Petronel's journey began in the Endangered Species Protection Unit of the South African Police Service. Her passion for wildlife led her to establish various wildlife centers before founding Care for Wild in 2011.

Care for Wild is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rewilding of orphaned and injured rhinos. The sanctuary has grown from humble beginnings, starting with just two small buildings and a barn, to a world-leading facility that provides a safe haven for these majestic creatures. In partnership with South African National Parks, Care for Wild plays a crucial role in the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned rhinos, ensuring their protection and future in the wild.
