Our Story

The Capri Theatre, originally opened as the Clover Theatre in 1941, stands as Alabama's longest continually operating movie theatre. Transformed into the Capri Theatre in 1962, it has been a cherished cultural landmark since 1983, when local residents banded together to save it from closure. The Capri Community Film Society has since developed a reputation for showcasing independent, foreign, and classic films, ensuring that diverse cinematic experiences remain accessible to the community.

Impact

Through significant fundraising efforts, including a successful Kickstarter campaign, the Capri Theatre has maintained its operation as an independent cinema. This has preserved its architectural integrity while providing a platform for diverse film programming, ensuring its relevance in the modern film landscape.
