Our Story

In 1972, Dean Leith planted the seed of Capital Roots, originally known as Capital District Community Gardens. This initiative was designed to empower local individuals to grow their own vegetables, providing the necessary knowledge, tools, and space. Over the years, Capital Roots has expanded its reach, offering community gardens, food access initiatives, and educational programs that enhance public health and nutrition in New York's Capital Region.
