About Capital City Pride

Capital City Pride began as a vision shared between two friends, Lucas Posey and Tyler Griffing, during a game night in 2018. Inspired by the successful Pride events in other Mississippi cities, they recognized a pressing need for LGBTQ+ advocacy and community support in Jackson. With the help of founding members Cody Shumaker and Ashlee Pitts, they established social media presence and organized their first community engagement meeting in August 2019. This initiative revealed a community yearning for healing, advocacy, and opportunities.

Over the years, Capital City Pride has forged a strong partnership with Grace House Services, which provided invaluable mentorship. This collaboration culminated in the inaugural Pride Festival, now known as #ItsPrideYall, held in October 2021. By early 2022, Capital City Pride proudly achieved 501(c)(3) Non-Profit status, solidifying its commitment to the LGBTQ+ community.
