Our Story

In 1977, a Seattle juvenile court judge recognized the need for informed decisions regarding abused and neglected children. This led to the creation of a program where citizen volunteers advocate for children's best interests in court. Capital City CASA was established in February 2009 under the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson City, Missouri, to address the needs of children in the juvenile court system. With the hiring of an Executive Director in 2010, the organization began to raise awareness about its mission and the children it serves. By 2011, 21 Court Appointed Special Advocates were actively representing the voices of abused and neglected children in Cole County, ensuring their wishes were heard in juvenile court.

Impact

Each year, Capital City CASA advocates for over 200 foster children in Cole County, many of whom will never return home. These children need a voice to advocate for their best interests.
